In late 2023, Gurka Cigar Group revealed that it would be releasing a limited quantity of its Year of the Dragon cigar. The 1500 boxes were quickly sold out due to the special edition product being packaged in a stunning piano red box decorated with a golden dragon. This cigar, crafted by the renowned El Artista in the Dominican Republic, was inspired by Chinese Culture and its belief that those born in the year of the dragon possess desirable qualities such as intelligence, charisma, and confidence. Little did consumers know that this release was just the beginning. In the following year, Gurkha announced that the Year of the Dragon would be celebrated with multiple releases in collaboration with other top names in the industry. This first-of-its-kind production showcased the finest artistry, branding, and tobacco, while also highlighting the camaraderie between supposed competitors. Ultimately, five unique cigars were created, with the first two being a collaboration with industry giant AJ Fernandez and the legendary E.P. Carrillo team. The remaining smokes, made by Oliva and Oscar Valladares, each had their own limited edition runs and distinct packaging. On the other hand, the blend created by Ernesto Perez-Carrillo used a Mexican San Andres wrapper, Ecuadorian Connecticut binder, and filler from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. This cigar was also medium to full-bodied but had a darker complexion and floral notes.
