The Aging Room Rare Collection cigars are a joint effort between Rafael Nodal, the head of product capability at Tabacalera USA, and renowned cigar maker AJ Fernandez. The two have collaborated on many successful blends in the past, but the Rare Collection stands out because it incorporates some of the scarcest and most well-aged tobaccos ever used in their releases. It comes in three popular sizes and features a Nicaraguan puro blend with a rare vintage wrapper made from a hybrid of Cuban seeds, grown by Fernandez on his La Lilia farm in Estelí, Nicaragua. This farm is named after Fernandez's grandmother, who raised him in Cuba after his parents left for Nicaragua, making it a sentimental place for him. The wrapper, with its oily appearance, encases a core of Cuban-seed tobaccos that have been aged for a long time and include the elusive Pelo d'Oro, which is known for its unique flavor and strength but is notoriously hard to grow. The end result is a complex and robust medium-to-full-bodied smoke with a creamy texture and notes of earth, cedar, leather, dark roast coffee, and baking spices.
